Open Source Content Management System Award Launched

Packt Publishing, publishers of some good books  on CMS have announced an award for the “best” Open Source CMS. You can also send in your nominations. Some details though:

  • Award prize money is $ 5000, $ 3000 and $ 2000 respectively for the top 3.
  • Nominations commenced on July 24, 2006
  • Nominations close on September 1, 2006

Sometime back, there was another competition called CMS Idol at Gilbane in which 6 commercial vendors competed against each other. The summary of that event is here.
I think if such events are held regularly, it will not only provide an incentive to vendors (especially the Open Source ones) to improve but will also give an opportunity to prospective buyers to evaluate and see the products in action. Maybe an Industry body like AIIM can take lead ….
